Pencil Sketching for Beginners

painting

Using a pencil is a convenient and expressive way of working on preliminary sketches and compositions that progresses into other medium later on. The mark made by the pencil can be very flexible and varied. It's good for very general areas of shading as well as the finest of details. When working with pencils there are techniques used that are common to other art practices, such as cross-hatching and stippling, to give tonal variation and others which are not, such as using masks to erase areas.

At the Centre For Seniors, we encourage older persons to pursue lifelong learning as a lifestyle so as to keep their minds and bodies active. The trainer, Mr Lim Loo Cheong who has attended a number of courses in Fine Arts at NAFA and holds a certificate in Western Art will provide you the know-how to exercise your brain by drawing and enjoying it. All you need is a drawing block (120gsm smooth surface), a 2B pencil and a kneading eraser.
